Irago Shrine

A shrine deeply linked to Ise Jingu

Irago Shrine is famous for Onzo Festival. It used to be called Iraku Daimyojin and its foundation dates back to A.D. 875. The shrine was strongly associated with Ise Jingu as it was Ise Jingu’s mikuri (a place to bring in offering to the Jingu).

Today, Onzo Festival is held on the third Sunday of April. Shops, such as a potted plant market, are lined up and many people come to enjoy.

Also, “Gozendara Festival” takes place from New Year Eve to New Year’s Day. To pray for another peaceful year, people purify themselves in the sparks.
